Looking for a few tips on the 850 balers. I went to look at a non-running 850 last night. Price is very attractive, baler has been shedded until about a year ago, so it looks good except for dirt/oil from the chains, etc. Twine box is on the front of the baler rather the side like I have seen before. 2003 isuzu npr manual. Price - $200.

One floor chain is hanging on the baler. There is hay in the floor, and I cannot see the condition of the other chains, but the owner is a co-worker and says that if he remembers correctly he lost two chains when trying to back up, and bought another baler. One tire is flat, but I believe air will put it on the road home.

Any advice on the chains - repair the one, and buy a new one to replace, or buy two new to get it going? Also I am seeing conflicting information on the bale size. Some report 5x5, 5x6, 4x5. Which is corrrect?

Owner says he thinks it is 5x6, but can be tied smaller. Thanks in advance for any help. I will likely go pick it up Sat.

Morning unless someone can convince me otherwise. I don't think I can go wrong on this baler unless I go crazy on putting on new parts. The 850 is a good old baler, but it can also be a bog pain in the @$$ at times. As per the book the 850 makes a 5-1/2X5-1/2 bale. Now you can make them smaller like 3X5-1/2 up to the full size. Chains can cost you a lot of $$$ to replace/repair.

You also need at the very least 55HP tractor to pull one. The manual says 55-75HP by the way. Also you can still get the manual for them from NH, I know I have both the baler and the manual.

If you want more info just asked, I'm no expert but I have been baleing with one for about 4-5 years now. I see your point.

I certainly do not want to spend that kind of money on the old baler. Perhaps I should point out my intended use for the baler as well. I am currently square baling to sell to horse owners.

Nh 850 Round Baler Parts

Last year I squared about 1600 bales and sold every one last winter, but i ran out of room before all the hay was baled, and had to 'hog' it last fall. I am the process of squaring this year and have about 1200 in the barn, but am running out of room again and would like to put the rest into big round and sell. I would not bale more than about 15 acres with the big round baler this year, and would very much like to pay for the baler. Maybe I am dreaming that I can put the chains back on and put it to work this year for $500 total out of pocket.
